This article describes the reality about why illegal immigrants aren't able to recieve citizenship. The fact that they make you spend $695 in order to become a citizen of the United States is costly. Half of the immigrants work dirty jobs for countless hours for only a couple dollars an hour. The immigrants can't afford citizenship so there has been a fifty percent drop in applications. They need the money for other essentials in order to survive everyday. The truth is we need immigrants in order to make a difference in the U.S.

This article is helpful in my argument because it shows the costs of obtaining citizenship and the work it takes. It also expresses how we are in need of immigrants, just not the illegal way. They should be allowed onto our land because we need their views on political grounds as well as others.

  1. Nathalie,

You make a very good point with the political cartoon. It may seem like flaunting all of the United States best qualities to less fortunate countries makes our country, in a way, a big tease. Legal immigration costs may be high, but there is a good point for that as well. If they were low and had lower standards, the U.S. could have trouble with population control because many people would immigrate here. Higher standards makes everything under control. Just like trying to make a team, you have to tryout before you can make it, it may cost you, and not everyone can make the team.

    Just something to think about..

  2. Illegal immigration is a crime. end of story. There is a legal process to go through in order to enter this country and a price to pay. There are countless opportunities in this country and sometimes it comes at a cost. Just because the process is pricey does not give people the right to break the law and enter our country illegally. It's like saying if a shirt at a store is really expensive does it give you the right to steal it just because its costly?
